MISSION

OUR STORY:

  • Native Grown & Gathered began as a seed of hope, rooted in the lands and traditions of Tribal communities across the Northwest. The initiative was cultivated from a simple but profound truth: Food sovereignty is at the heart of the health, culture, and economic well-being of Native peoples. Every seed planted, every plant, fish, or animal harvested, and every traditional meal shared is more than sustenance—it’s a connection to ancestral knowledge, land stewardship, and community resilience.

  • Our story begins in Washington State, where a collaboration between Feed Seven Generations, the City of Seattle, and Tahoma Peak Solutions set out to build a network between Native food producers and Native consumers. What started as a regional initiative quickly became a powerful movement. We worked to address the challenges faced by Native-owned food businesses, from gaps in funding and technical support to the lack of visibility for these crucial food producers. Through interviews, surveys, and hands-on engagement with Native farmers, gatherers, and entrepreneurs, the Native Grown & Gathered project began to take shape.

  • The success of our initial efforts in Washington laid the foundation for something bigger. As word spread and interest grew, so did our vision. We expanded into Idaho, Oregon, Montana, Colorado, and Wyoming through a partnership with the Northwest and Rocky Mountain Regional Food Business Center. Each new region brought unique stories, traditions, and challenges, but the common thread remained the same: Native food producers have long been the stewards of their lands and foodways, and they deserve the resources and support to continue that legacy.

  • At the core of our work is the belief that listening to and amplifying the voices of Native producers is critical to the future of food sovereignty. By gathering insights directly from the people who know the land and its bounty, we’re able to foster deep connections across regions, build networks that support collaboration, and create spaces where resources and knowledge can be shared.

  • Native Grown & Gathered is not just about identifying gaps in funding or providing technical assistance—although that’s an important part of what we do. It’s about weaving together a community of people dedicated to honoring traditional knowledge while adapting to modern realities. It’s about celebrating the rich cultural heritage embedded in every seed, every recipe, and every harvest.

  • As we continue to grow, we remain committed to supporting Native food producers in every way possible. From building pathways to funding and technical resources to sharing stories that uplift and inspire, Native Grown & Gathered is here to help Indigenous communities thrive through food sovereignty, resilience, and collective empowerment.

Feed Seven Generations revitalizes tribal community health and wellness by amplifying Native voices, reconnecting with ancestral health practices, and promoting sustainable land management. The organization envisions a world where Native Americans have access to culturally appropriate and nutritious diets, fostering community resilience and environmental stewardship. Through education, empowerment, and policy development, Feed strengthens tribal food systems and cultivates health rooted in traditional knowledge and modern science.
